For those who qualify, the average amount of help received will be about $2,100, which may be used to pay for the premiums, annual deductible, and co-payments related to the new Medicare prescription drug program. To get the extra help, you will need to submit an application.
We have provided a worksheet (link above) that will help you prepare for the application process. Once you have completed the worksheet, please call Social Security at 1-800-772-1213 for an application form or click here to apply online.
You may sign up for a prescription drug plan starting on November 15, 2005. If you sign up by December 31, 2005 your coverage will start on January 1, 2006.
Please note: If you sign up after December 31, 2005, your coverage will start the month after you sign up.
